All participants attending nationally recognised training in Australia from 1 January 2015, will be required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). A USI is an account (or reference number) made up of numbers and letters. The USI is a unique number issued to individuals and must be provided to Training Organisations at the time of enrolment. Rail Safety Worker Induction -Course Code TLIF2080 "Safely access the Rail Corridor" is a mandatory requirement for all

contractors working within TfNSW /CRN/ARTC rail corridors. This one day course provides awareness of legal obligations, critical safety requirements and hazards that workers must be able to identify and deal with when conducting contracted work.

Discussion through this course includes descriptions of interlocking equipment and basic signaling indications, rules for people working in the danger zone, or on platforms, worksite protection arrangements, common track-side signage, basic handsignals, peculiarities of train movements and critical personal responsibility. Attitudes and practices necessary for contractors to work safely within the varying nature of the railway environment are discussed.

Assessment Procedure: At the completion of the course there is a period for study & review before a "closed book" theory assessment is conducted. This is followed by a one to one practical assessment. Both assessments must be passed to be competent. Persons who are not yet competent, will be reviewed and depending on this outcome, may be advised to return on another course date to resit the course and be given a supplementy assessment. Please be advised, that if a person attends the RISI course and assessment and the outcome is "Not Yet Competent" they may have the opportunity to attend a new course. They will have to pay an additional fee of $100.00 to attend a new course and be assessed again.

SYDNEY TRAINS & ARTC/CRN - RSW card: On completion of training you will be issued with TLIF2080 "Statement of Attainment" which you must upload onto the Pegasus Onsite System .Full details of the requirements and process are available by simply clicking on the link.



Location: SCRT Training Centre, Level 1, Unit 7/ 4 Brunker Road Chullora 2190.

Courses are conducted every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at Chullora 2190

Some courses can be conducted for company groups on Fridays, but only on request. (5 or more persons)

NOTE: All Contractors must have both RISI and RIW card until 1st December 2015. After that date you will require just a RIW card.

Requirements for Literacy and Numeracy

TO DO THE RISI COURSE: Participants must be able to understand, read and write Basic English at least to the level required in the workplaces as a minimum entry requirement.

The course is presented in English and participants will be given an LLN assessment before undergoing training and must be able to demonstrate that they can interpret and apply the learning. Language, Literacy and Numeracy
(LLN) issues are considered during course development. The design of the assessment tools reflects the LLN competence required in the workplace. Interpreters cannot be utilised and materials cannot be translated into other languages”.

Not an Australian Citizen! then you must provide a Passport on the day of training in order to check Visa status

The RISI course need only be completed once, however renewal of the certificate is required at intervals based on medical examinations which are required every five years unless a particular health condition requires earlier re-examination. A nominal fee is charged for the renewal of certificates which will need to have a new photograph taken every five years.Medicals including drug & alcohol test must be submitted with new ID forms.

Medical Examination

The awarding of the RIW Card is dependent on people passing a (category 3) medical examination by an Authorised Medical Practitioner.See List of Authorised Health Service Providers

( See also list under FORMS). Which must show workers to be drug & alcohol free, in generally good physical condition with hearing and visual acuity to satisfy the requirements of the Category 3.It is recommended that this be completed before training.

Age Requirement

There is no age requirement, only that for applicants who are 16 years or under, additional information must be provided to Transport for NSW (regarding type of work to be done and level of supervision) and it will then be reviewed on a case by case basis.

This does not apply to persons 17 years and over.


Visa Information Requirement

This is not required if you are an Australian Citizen (Born in Australia or have taken Australian Citizenship)

Anyone not an Australian Citizen must provide their Passport on the day of training in order to check Visa status


Please Note: Clients who require reprints of 'Statements of Attainment' after the course has been completed and originals have been issued, will be charged an admin fee of $50.00 per statement, to provide this service.
