Rail Industry Safety Induction
The R.I.S.I. (photo I.D.) certificate is a mandatory requirement for all workers involved in work within NSW rail corridors.
This eight-hour course provides awareness of legal obligations, critical safety requirements and hazards that workers must be able to identify and deal with.
Discussion through this course includes descriptions of interlocking equipment and basic signaling indications, rules for people working in the danger zone, or on platforms, worksite protection arrangements, common track-side signage, basic handsignals, peculiarities of train movements and critical personal responsibility. Attitudes and practices necessary for employees to work safely within the varying nature of the railway environment are discussed..
A workbook is provided for each participant to enhance discussion of some of these critical issues.
The awarding of the RISI Certificate is dependant on people passing a (category 3) medical examination which must show workers to be drug free, in generally good physical condition with hearing and visual acuity to satisfy the requirements of the Category 3. (Download Health Assessment(Mauve)
The RISI course need only be completed once, however renewal of the certificate is required at intervals based on medical examinations which are required every five years unless a particular health condition requires earlier re-examination. A nominal fee is charged for the renewal of certificates which will need to have a new photograph taken every five years.
