Worksite Protection Officer levels 1 to 4
Southern Cross Rail Training conducts these off the job courses in theoretical modules in our air-conditioned premises at Level 1, Unit 7/ 4 Brunker Road Chullora 2190 or on-site by request if required
Applicants must complete further training on the job under the supervision of an experienced Protection Officer, until they are competent to undertake worksite protection procedures independently without supervision. When considered competent the applicant is required to complete an on-track practical assessment conducted by a RailCorp assessor who will recommend the awarding of a Certificate of Competence on behalf of the Ministry of Transport NSW.
Content for each of these courses is based on specified RailSafe (rail industry) Training Standards.
Discussion during off the job modules includes network rules and procedures appropriate to worksite protection using the No Authority required, Controlled Signal blocking Track Occupancy Authority, Track Work authority and the Local Possession Authority methods of protection depending on the level of protection Officer course. A table below shows the Protection Authorities that each level Protection officer is authorized to implement and manage.
Modules will include making a safety assessment, nominating and selecting an appropriate level of protection with network control officers, establishing the protection, managing worksite protection using signals if available, performing duties of a lookout, ending NAR withdrawing (CSB, TOA, TWA and LPA) protection and documentation requirements for worksites.
